Horizions Support Update

Hey friends and family!

I just wanted to give you an update. As of 4 days ago, I am fully funded to go to East Asia! Thank you to all of who partnered with me, especially a certain family who donated $5,000!

I leave May 20th from Chicago. For this last week I've been support raising like crazy, sending over 90 support letters. I've also spent more time in hospitals and urgent cares getting immunization shots, than I have in the last 3 years... I've been poked so many times I feel like a pin cushion....

Thank you so much for your support, I hope that I will be able to communicate while I am over there.

Please continue to Rap to Dad for the men and women in country along with my teammates with The Company. May the college students hear about JJCool and his awesome gift he gave to people.

Later today, will travel to Madison WI to spend a few weeks living with some of my buddies and visiting my girlfriend. Then on May 20, I head out to East Asia!

Thanks for your support!

ChatterBox vs. Cru - Street Ball

Summer Project offered the ChatterBox a challenge to street ball for Monday 8/1/11. It rained, so the game was moved to the next night and the ChatterBox answered.

5 STUDS showed up against 6 ChatterBox Kitchen Staff (JK playin with SP). It was a back an forth game to 16, but in the end, the waiters and cooks brought the heat to the college kids 16-13.

STUDS team was made up of Jimmy Niederhaus (U of Wisconsin La Crosse), Jimmy Cliffton (Northwestern), Brandon Brooks (University of Wisconsin Madison), Jonathan Eggert (California State Sacramento) and yours truly (Michigan Tech)

ChatterBox Kitchen Staff consisted of Nick, Lee, James, Jay, Charlie and Matty.

I would consider this the 3rd time I've played competetive b-ball. 1 intramural game and 1 pick up game at Tech.  I learned a lot about setting picks and passing the rock tonight. I played hard under the hoop and grabbed some rebounds, but for as many really good plays I made, I made some bad plays.... So in the end, I was a neutral effect for the team, but got much better over the the game and made 2 layups on open lane drives.

There are less than two weeks in Project, then I head out to Cincinnati to be at Josh Weyburnes wedding, my good buddy from Tech.

Please continue to Rap for me and the rest of us on Project, that we would finish strong, continue to build relationships on project, pursue JJCool, and share our love in Ocean City.

1 week into the Chatterbox

I'm through working at the Chatterbox for over a week now!

When I'm working, I'm in the dishroom with one of two Mexicans: Gorgonio or Serfin. They're two cool dudes that don't know much English.... So I'm re-learning a bunch of Spanish from highschool.

This week I made a questionnaire and gave it out to the majority of the staff there, and I got a great response: Cooks, waiters/waitresses, prep boys, owners, all of them! I'm hoping that this will open up people to me so I can get into their life and figure out the best way to present them with The News.

I got my first paycheck : $250 for 30 hrs of work! That's like $8.25/hr after taxes! I'm really pumped.

I opened a Wells Fargo mission account, that I will put money into to save for future mission trips and Tech outreaches. With the money that I've made doing construction, security and dishwashing, I already have over $800 in there! Yeah Dad!

Gotta run to dinner,

Much love to you all,

~JK~

The Joblist goes on! - Chatterbox

Sup everybody,

I finally got a full time job! Today I had my first day working as a dishwasher at "The Chatterbox". Here's  the background for my job search so far.

For basically the entire Summer Project I have been very busy finding a job. As I said in my first letter, I applied to "Air Circus" and "Super Fresh" before project started, and I figured I had it in the bag.

1 week into project, I was doing construction work with "Pease Contracting".  My buddy Anthony Gullucci and I were under a house lifting up a sunken floor....

Weeks 2 and 3 of project, I had a temporary security job for a house on the street. The owner was renting out to Senior Week students from PA.  Almost all highschoolers around here go on "Senior Week" after they graduate.  They go to Ocean City, rent houses and party for a week.

Week 4 I worked at "Ocean City Memories" T-shirt shop. They had me clean their back room and get them ready for the busy season, and then they let me go because "they had too many guys"....

Week 5 I worked with "Pease Contracting" again with my buddy Lucas, we tore siding off of a house and helped put in a mantle in a living room.

Week 6 I found the job at "Chatterbox"! I'm in the dishroom with Serfin and George, 2 Mexicans, washing dishes and putting away everything that we wash.

That's all for now.

Much love to my boys and girls,

~JK~

Summer Project - First Blog

What up friends and family!

So, originally I wanted to send out letters every few weeks updating people on how I am doing. However, it has become too expensive, time consuming and there is too much going on here to write about. So, I have decided to start writing a blog. Hopefully I can figure out how to keep this easy and up to date.  I will send out one more letter soon and maybe one later, but for the most part, if you would like to be kept up to date, please view this blog!

Much love,

~JK~
